Dave's Interests
Dave loves to read (preferably sci-fi/fantasy novels), write (working on a novel), listen to music (no country, rap, or acid rock), love to do interior design, and collect comics.
My favorite comic book character is Wonder Woman. Ever since I was ten years old, I've loved her.
Her character has gone through so many changes over the years, but the essence of who she is hasn't changed.
Born the daughter of Queen Hippolyte on Themyscira, the island home of the Amazons, Princess Diana was destined to be the saviour of both her home and Patriarch's World (the outsite world) against the mad schemings of the war god, Ares. After she defeated him, she stayed in the outside world to be an ambassador and continue to teach the Amazon ideals of love, compassion, and equality.
The world recognizes her because of her armor, but each element of her garb has meaning.
1. The tiara shows her station as an Amazon princess. It can be used as a boomerang or cutting device, if need be.
2. Her silver bracelets, while symbolic of her peoples' enslavement by men, were forged from the aegis, the shield constructed from the hide of Amalthea, the goat-goddess who wetnursed Zeus as a baby. The bracelets are indestructible, and are used to deflect objects from bullets to missiles.
3. Her armor was patterned after the flight jacket of Diana Trevor, an American WAC who crashed on Themyscira and subsequently helped the Amazons defeat Cottos, one of the Hecatoncheires [hundred-handed ones]. In honor of Diana Trevor's bravery, Hippolyte created armor which brandished not only the red, white, and blue of the patches on the flight jacket, but the double-W insignia which denoted her affiliation with the WAC. The belt resembles the golden girdle of Gaea that her mother wears as a symbol of her station as royalty.
4. Last, but not least, is the lasso of Hestia. Forged from another girdle of Gaea, the lasso is indestructible and is the means by which Wonder Woman can draw the truth from whoever is bound in it. Using the fires of Hestia, it burns away deception and falsehood, allowing the truth to surface. Once tied around someone/thing by Wonder Woman, the lasso can only be undone by Diana.
Princess Diana is blessed by the Olympians with many gifts, including incredible strength, speed, the power of flight, reign over the fires of truth, and the skills of both the huntress and the warrior.
